Alexandra Stan (born 10 June 1989) is a Romanian singer and songwriter from Constanța. She gained worldwide recognition with her 2011 single "Mr. Saxobeat," written and produced by Marcel Prodan and Andrei Nemirschi. Discovered by them in 2009, she signed with their label Maan Records and released her debut single "Lollipop (Param Pam Pam)" and a promotional single "Show Me The Way." "Mr. Saxobeat" reached number one in Romania and nine other countries, including Germany, becoming the first Romanian song to top the German chart since 2004. Her follow-up single "Get Back (ASAP)" also charted in several countries. Her debut album Saxobeats was released internationally.
After an alleged physical altercation with Prodan in 2013, Stan's last release under his label, Cliché (Hush Hush), came out that year in Japan as a reissue of Saxobeats. Following a hiatus and recovery, she signed with Fonogram Records and released her comeback album Unlocked in August 2014. Six singles were released from it, including "Dance," which peaked at number 25 on the Japan Hot 100. The video for "Give Me Your Everything" sparked controversy due to a robe with masonic symbols. Her third studio album, Alesta, included the single "We Wanna" featuring Inna and Daddy Yankee, and "I Did It, Mama!," which reached the Romanian top ten.
