Ana Plasencia was born on August 19, 1974, in Frankfurt/Main, Germany, and grew up on the Canary Island of Tenerife. She attended the German school in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, where she completed both the German and Spanish Abitur. In 1992, she moved to Berlin to study at the Free University.
In 1997, Plasencia began working as a weather presenter at DW-TV and soon joined the Spanish-language news program Journal. From 2000, she presented business news at DW-TV and weather at N24. She also hosts the show Global 3000 in both German and Spanish versions. After DW-TV rebranded as DW, she moved from business news to the news anchor role on Journal. Since 2006, she has presented the program Umschau on MDR Leipzig every Tuesday, which is also broadcast on EinsExtra. In 2015, she had her first child. She often waves with her fingers to the camera at the end of Umschau broadcasts, a gesture originally intended as an indirect wave to her mother in Tenerife.
