Azealia Amanda Banks (born May 31, 1991) is an American rapper, singer-songwriter, and actress. Raised in Harlem, New York City, she began releasing music on MySpace in 2008 and was signed to XL Recordings at age 17.
After releasing her debut single "212," Banks signed with Interscope and Polydor Records and released her first extended play, 1991, in 2012. Her debut studio album, Broke with Expensive Taste, was released in 2014 after several delays. In 2016, she released the mixtape Slay-Z. Banks' outspoken views and controversial social media presence have drawn media scrutiny throughout her career.
