Brandy Rayana Norwood (born February 11, 1979) is an American singer, songwriter, record producer, and actress. She began her career as a child, signing with Atlantic Records in 1993. Her self-titled debut album, released in 1994, was certified quadruple Platinum in the US and sold six million copies worldwide. Norwood starred in the UPN sitcom Moesha for six seasons. In 1998, she released the duet "The Boy Is Mine" with Monica, which became the best-selling female duet of all time and one of the longest-running number one singles in history. Her second album, Never Say Never, sold 16 million copies worldwide, featured two number one singles, and earned her a Grammy Award.
During the 2000s, Norwood released the albums Full Moon (2002) and Afrodisiac (2004) to critical and commercial success. She served as a judge on the first season of America's Got Talent but was involved in a car accident in 2006. Her fifth album, Human (2008), was a commercial failure. In the 2010s, she appeared on Dancing with the Stars, starred in the reality series Brandy & Ray J: A Family Business, and became a series regular on BET's The Game. Her sixth album, Two Eleven (2012), received critical praise. She made her Broadway debut in Chicago in 2015 and starred in the BET sitcom Zoe Ever After in 2016. Norwood has sold over 40 million records worldwide and earned numerous awards, including a Grammy, an American Music Award, and seven Billboard Music Awards. She is known for her distinctive voice and has been nicknamed "The Vocal Bible."
