Eva Hassmann (born December 29, 1972, in Herford) is a German actress and artist. She began ballet, tap dance, and singing lessons at the age of nine in Oldenburg. She received her first minor roles at the State Theater Oldenburg through participation in a free theater group. After completing her Abitur, she moved to Berlin and studied dance, singing, speech, and acting at institutions including the Lee Strasberg Theatre and Film Institute in Los Angeles, the Ivana Chubbuck Studio, and directing at UCLA. She has been active on camera since 1993 and was married to Otto Waalkes from 2000 to 2012.
Hassmann wrote the screenplay for the short film Mad Lane, in which she also served as producer and lead actress. The film was successful at international film festivals and won the Short Film Award for Best Direction and Best Film at the 2006 Sacramento International Film Festival. Mad Lane was also shown at the International Hof Film Days (2006) and the Max Ophüls Film Festival (2007) in Germany. She currently lives in Berlin and works as a freelance photographic artist. Her first public exhibition, Independence Day, was presented in 2013 at the Bötzow Halls in Berlin in cooperation with Argentine artist Flavia Da Rin. The exhibition featured staged self-portraits of various female roles in different locations across the USA.
