Fiona Apple McAfee-Maggart (born September 13, 1977) is an American singer-songwriter, pianist, and record producer. She began composing songs at eight years old and released her debut album, Tidal, in 1996, which won a Grammy Award for Best Female Rock Vocal Performance for the single "Criminal". Her second album, When the Pawn... (1999), produced by Jon Brion, was commercially successful and certified platinum.
Apple started recording her third album, Extraordinary Machine, in 2002 with Jon Brion but was unhappy with the production and delayed its release. The album was re-produced without Brion and released in October 2005 to critical acclaim. Her fourth studio album, The Idler Wheel... (2012), received universal critical praise and was followed by a tour in the USA.
