Joanne Froggatt (born 23 August 1980) is an English actress known for stage, television, and film roles. From 2010, she played lady's maid Anna Bates in all six seasons of the period drama Downton Abbey, earning three Primetime Emmy Award nominations for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series and winning the Golden Globe Award for Best Supporting Actress on Television in 2014.
Her early TV appearances include Coronation Street (1997–98), Bad Girls (1999), Dinnerladies (1999), and A Touch of Frost (2003). She starred in television films such as Danielle Cable: Eye Witness (2003), See No Evil: The Moors Murders (2006), and Murder in the Outback (2007). Froggatt won the British Independent Film Award for Most Promising Newcomer for her leading role in the 2010 film In Our Name. She also played Mary Ann Cotton in the 2016 ITV miniseries Dark Angel.
