Jurnee Diana Smollett-Bell (born October 1, 1986) is an American actress who began her career as a child on television sitcoms, including On Our Own (1994–1995). She received critical acclaim and a Critic's Choice Award for her role as Eve in the 1997 independent drama film Eve's Bayou.
As an adult, Smollett-Bell starred in films such as The Great Debaters (2007) and Temptation: Confessions of a Marriage Counselor (2013). She had leading roles in TV series including Friday Night Lights (2009–2011), True Blood (2013–2014), and Underground (2016). She has won three NAACP Image Awards and was cast as Black Canary in the DC Extended Universe, debuting in Birds of Prey (2018).
