Kelis Rogers, known as Kelis, is an American singer, songwriter, and chef born on August 21, 1979. She gained moderate international success with her 1999 debut album, Kaleidoscope, but left Virgin Records after her second album, Wanderland (2001), received little sales attention and was not released in the U.S.
Her third album, Tasty (2003), brought her commercial prominence and included the hit single "Milkshake." Kelis Was Here (2006), her fourth album, involved further label disputes, after which she took a break from music to train at Le Cordon Bleu culinary school. She later released Flesh Tone in 2010 and Food in 2014 under Ninja Tune Records.
