Kerli Kõiv, known as Kerli, is an Estonian singer and songwriter born on February 7, 1987, in Elva, Estonia. She was signed to Island Records in 2006 by LA Reid and released her debut EP in 2007 and her debut studio album, Love Is Dead, in 2008, which charted on the Billboard 200. The lead single "Walking on Air" charted internationally and was downloaded over 500,000 times as the iTunes Store's Single of the Week.
Kerli shifted from alternative rock to an electronic and dance sound, evident in her 2010 single "Army of Love." Her second EP, Utopia (2013), also charted on the Billboard 200, with singles "Army of Love," "Zero Gravity," and "The Lucky Ones" reaching the top ten of Billboard's Hot Dance Club Songs chart. She co-wrote "Skyscraper" and "I Feel Immortal," later recorded by Demi Lovato and Tarja Turunen, respectively. In 2013, Kerli performed twice on Dancing with the Stars and signed with Ultra Music after leaving Island Records in November of that year.
