Elena Sergeevna Katina, born on 4 October 1984, is a Russian singer and songwriter known for her work with the duo t.A.T.u. She began her career at age eight, joining the children's groups Avenue and later Neposedi. In 1999, Ivan Shapovalov selected her and Julia Volkova for the project t.A.T.u., which became Russia's most successful pop act, producing hits such as "All the Things She Said," "Not Gonna Get Us," and "All About Us." Their single "All the Things She Said" reached number one in 19 countries including the UK, Russia, and Australia.
Katina started a solo career in 2009, leading to t.A.T.u.'s hiatus. She and Volkova officially split in 2011 to pursue solo work. That year, Katina released her first mainstream single "Never Forget," which topped MTV Russia's Top 10, won MTV Russia's 2011 Video of the Year, and reached number one on the US Billboard Hot Dance Club Play and in Greece. In 2014, she released her debut album, This Is Who I Am.
