Melissa Ann McCarthy (born August 26, 1970) is an American actress, comedian, writer, fashion designer, and producer. She gained recognition for her role as Sookie St. James on the television series Gilmore Girls (2000–2007) and appeared as Dena on Samantha Who? (2007–2009). McCarthy starred as Molly Flynn on Mike & Molly (2010–2016), earning a Primetime Emmy Award and two additional nominations. She was also nominated for the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Guest Actress in a Comedy Series four consecutive years for hosting Saturday Night Live.
McCarthy received an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actress for her role as Megan Price in Bridesmaids (2011), along with BAFTA and Screen Actors Guild Award nominations. She co-starred in Identity Thief and The Heat (2013), and appeared in The Nines (2007), The Back-up Plan (2010), Life as We Know It (2010), This Is 40 (2012), The Hangover Part III (2013), Tammy (2014), St. Vincent (2014), Spy (2015), The Boss (2016), and Ghostbusters (2016). She and her husband Ben Falcone founded On the Day Productions. In 2015, she received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame and launched a plus size clothing line, Melissa McCarthy Seven7. Forbes named her the third highest-paid actress in 2015 and the second highest-paid actress in 2016, with earnings of $33 million.
