Miesha Theresa Tate (born August 18, 1986) is an American mixed martial artist who competes in the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) and is a former UFC Women's Bantamweight Champion. She began wrestling in high school, winning a state championship in 2005, and started her professional MMA career in 2007. Tate won the bantamweight championship of Freestyle Cage Fighting in 2009 and the Strikeforce Women's Bantamweight Championship in 2011. She also earned a silver medal in the FILA Grappling Championships.
Tate became UFC Women's Bantamweight Champion on March 5, 2016, by defeating Holly Holm via technical submission, and lost the title on July 9, 2016, to Amanda Nunes by rear naked choke. She is known for her wrestling and Brazilian jiu-jitsu fighting style and has been credited by UFC president Dana White for influencing the creation of women's divisions in the UFC. Outside MMA, Tate has modeled for ESPN The Magazine and Fitness Gurls, appeared in the film Fight Valley, and is a playable character in the video game EA Sports UFC.
