Mindy Kaling, born Vera Mindy Chokalingam on June 24, 1979, is an American actress, comedian, and writer. She created, wrote, produced, and starred in the Fox/Hulu sitcom The Mindy Project (2012–2017) and is known for her role as Kelly Kapoor on the NBC sitcom The Office (2005–2013), where she also served as a writer, executive producer, and occasional director. She received a Primetime Emmy Award nomination for Outstanding Writing in a Comedy Series in 2010 for her work on The Office.
In 2017, NBC ordered the series Champions, which Kaling co-created, wrote, and produced; she appeared as a recurring guest starting with the show's premiere on March 8, 2018. Her film work includes voice roles in Despicable Me (2010), Wreck-It Ralph (2012), and Inside Out (2015), as well as starring roles in A Wrinkle in Time and Ocean's 8, both released in 2018. Kaling has also authored two New York Times best-selling memoirs: Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me? (And Other Concerns) and Why Not Me?.
