Nnemkadi "Nneka" Ogwumike (born July 2, 1990) is an American basketball player of Nigerian descent who plays for the Los Angeles Sparks of the Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA). She was drafted No. 1 overall in the 2012 WNBA Draft and signed an endorsement deal with Nike shortly after. Ogwumike was named WNBA MVP in 2016 and also plays for Dynamo Kursk in Russia.
Ogwumike is 6'2" and plays power forward. She attended Cypress-Fairbanks High School in Cypress, Texas, leading them to a 5A State Championship in her senior year. At Stanford University, she helped the Cardinal reach the Final Four four times. In 2016, she was elected President of the WNBA Players Association. Her name, "Nneka," means "Mother is Supreme" in Igbo. She is the older sister of Chiney Ogwumike, who also plays in the WNBA.
