Romy Schneider (born September 23, 1938, in Vienna; died May 29, 1982, in Paris; birth name Rosemarie Magdalena Albach) was a German-French actress and voice actress. She began her acting career at the age of 15, appearing alongside her mother Magda Schneider in homeland films such as When the White Lilacs Bloom Again (1953) and The German Masters (1955). Between 1955 and 1957, she achieved international breakthrough with the role of Empress Elisabeth in the Sissi trilogy.

In 1958, Schneider moved to Paris seeking challenging roles and made her theater debut in John Ford's tragedy The Lady from the Sea. In 1963, she filmed The Cardinal in the United States, earning a Golden Globe nomination. In 1969, she had a cinematic success with The Swimming Pool alongside Alain Delon. During the 1970s, Schneider reached the artistic peak of her career, working with directors like Claude Sautet, Andrzej Żuławski, and Luchino Visconti. She became the most successful actress in French cinema of that time, receiving César Awards for Best Actress for Night Flight (1975) and A Simple Story (1978). Her last film, The Walker of Sans-Souci, was released in 1982 shortly before her death. She was posthumously awarded an honorary César in 2008.
