Sarah Jean Burke (September 3, 1982 – January 19, 2012) was a Canadian freestyle skier and a pioneer of the superpipe event. She won four gold medals at the Winter X Games and the world championship in halfpipe in 2005.
She successfully lobbied the International Olympic Committee to include the halfpipe event in the 2014 Winter Olympics and was considered a medal favorite. Burke died after a training accident in Utah.
