Sarah Louise Palin, born February 11, 1964, is an American politician, commentator, author, and reality television personality. She served as the ninth Governor of Alaska from 2006 until her resignation in 2009. Palin was the Republican nominee for Vice President of the United States in 2008 alongside John McCain, becoming the first Alaskan on a major party's national ticket and the first Republican woman vice presidential candidate. Her book Going Rogue sold more than two million copies.
Palin was elected to the Wasilla city council in 1992 and became mayor in 1996. After an unsuccessful run for lieutenant governor in 2002, she was appointed chair of the Alaska Oil and Gas Conservation Commission in 2003. She was the youngest person and first woman elected Governor of Alaska. Since resigning as governor, she has endorsed the Tea Party movement and several candidates, including Donald Trump in 2016. From 2010 to 2015, she provided political commentary for Fox News. She hosted the TV show Amazing America with Sarah Palin from April 2014 to February 2015 and launched the Sarah Palin Channel in July 2014, which closed in July 2015.
