Sigourney Weaver (born Susan Alexandra Weaver; October 8, 1949) is an American actress and film producer. She gained prominence in 1979 with her lead role as Ellen Ripley in Alien and reprised it in three sequels, including Aliens (1986), for which she received an Academy Award nomination for Best Actress. She is also known for starring in Ghostbusters (1984), Ghostbusters II (1989), and Avatar (2009).
Weaver has been nominated for multiple awards, including Drama Desk, Tony, Golden Globe, Academy, Emmy, and Saturn Awards. She won two Golden Globes in 1988 for Gorillas in the Mist and Working Girl and received a BAFTA for Best Supporting Actress for The Ice Storm (1997). Nicknamed "the Sci-Fi Queen," she appeared in films such as Futurama (2002), WALL-E (2008), Paul (2011), and Finding Dory (2016). She returned to Broadway in 2013 starring in Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike.
