Taraneh Alidoosti, born in 1984, is an Iranian actress known internationally for her role in The Salesman (2016), which won the Best Foreign Language Film Award at the 89th Academy Awards. She has received several awards, including a Crystal Simorgh, an Iran Cinema Celebration Award, and an Iran's Film Critics and Writers Association Award. Her other notable works include The Beautiful City (2003), Fireworks Wednesday (2006), About Elly (2009), and the series Shahrzad (2015–2018).
Alidoosti is a feminist and showed support for the Mahsa Amini protests by posting a photo in November 2022 without her Islamic headscarf and holding a banner reading "Women, Life, Freedom." She was arrested on December 17, 2022, and taken to Evin prison.
