Zascha Moktan (born 23 December 1981) is a Nepalese-German singer, pianist, and guitarist. She was born to a Nepalese father and a German mother and moved to Germany at the age of six. She lived in India and London, where she first performed in a gospel choir, before settling in Frankfurt and later Berlin. Moktan began playing piano at eight and trained in classical music through her school choir. In the mid-1990s, she founded a band in Frankfurt that played punk and rock music. In 2000, she won the title of Best Hessian Newcomer Band in a song contest and was discovered by Nigel Kennedy, who invited her to perform with him.
In November 2003, Moktan supported Craig David during his German tour. In 2005, she toured the U.S. with Alicia Keys and John Legend, interrupting her hair stylist training in Hamburg. She signed her first record deal with Universal Music Group in 2006. Her debut single "Ouch!" was released on 9 November 2007, after which she was named Newcomer of the Month by Bayern 3 radio and performed at the New Pop Festival in Baden-Baden. Her second single "Like U Do" and debut album The Bottom Line were released on 14 March 2008. Her music incorporates soul, funk, jazz, blues, and gospel elements.
