Ana Ivanovic, born on November 6, 1987, is a Serbian professional tennis player. She was ranked No. 1 in the world in 2008 and won the 2008 French Open by defeating Dinara Safina. She was runner-up at the 2007 French Open and the 2008 Australian Open. Ivanovic qualified for the WTA Tour Championships in 2007, 2008, and 2014, and won the year-end WTA Tournament of Champions in 2010 and 2011. Since turning professional in 2003, she has won 15 WTA Tour singles titles, including one Grand Slam, and earned over $15 million by 2016. In June 2011, she was named one of the "30 Legends of Women's Tennis" by Time and included in a list of the Top 100 Greatest Players Ever by Matthew Cronin.
Her breakthrough came at the 2004 Zurich Open, where she qualified and lost to Venus Williams in the second round. By age 18, she had defeated players such as Svetlana Kuznetsova, Nadia Petrova, Vera Zvonareva, and Amélie Mauresmo, and she has also beaten other top players including Maria Sharapova, Serena and Venus Williams, Martina Hingis, Jelena Janković, and Simona Halep. Ivanovic is known for her aggressive style and strong forehand. After winning the 2008 French Open, she struggled with form and rankings, dropping to No. 65 in July 2010. In 2014, she won four titles including the Auckland Open and qualified for the WTA Tour Championships, finishing the year ranked No. 5. In 2015, she reached the semifinals of a major for the first time in seven years at the French Open.
