Brigitte Anne-Marie Bardot (born 28 September 1934) is a French actress, singer, and fashion model who later became an animal rights activist. She gained international fame in 1957 after starring in the film And God Created Woman and was known as a prominent sex symbol of the 1950s and 1960s. Bardot appeared in 47 films, performed in musical shows, and recorded over 60 songs during her career. She was the official face of Marianne from 1969 to 1978 and was nominated for a BAFTA Award for Best Foreign Actress for her role in Viva Maria! (1965).
Bardot retired from entertainment in 1973 and was awarded the Legion of Honour in 1985, which she refused. She became an animal rights activist and later attracted controversy in the 2000s for criticizing immigration and Islam in France, resulting in five fines for inciting racial hatred.
