Brittany Murphy-Monjack (born Brittany Anne Bertolotti; November 10, 1977 – December 20, 2009) was an American film and stage actress, singer, and voice artist. She moved from Atlanta to Los Angeles as a teenager to pursue acting. Her breakthrough role was Tai Frasier in Clueless (1995), followed by parts in Freeway (1996), Bongwater (1998), and a Broadway debut in Arthur Miller's A View from the Bridge (1997). She also appeared in Girl, Interrupted (1999) and Drop Dead Gorgeous (1999).
In the 2000s, Murphy appeared in Don't Say a Word (2001), 8 Mile (2002), Riding in Cars with Boys (2001), Spun (2002), Uptown Girls (2003), Sin City (2005), and Happy Feet (2006). She voiced Luanne Platter on King of the Hill. Her final film, Something Wicked, was released in April 2014. Murphy died in December 2009 at age 32 from pneumonia and anemia. Initial findings ruled her death an accidental drug overdose. After her widower died six months later from similar illnesses, toxic mold was considered but dismissed as a cause. In 2011, Murphy's mother filed a lawsuit against attorneys involved in a prior case related to the home where Murphy and her husband died.
