Carey Hannah Mulligan (born 28 May 1985) is a British actress. She made her acting debut on stage in London in the play Forty Winks in 2004. Mulligan's feature film debut was as Kitty Bennet in the 2005 adaptation of Pride & Prejudice. Early television roles included Bleak House and Doctor Who. In 2008, she made her Broadway debut in a revival of Chekhov's The Seagull.
Mulligan received widespread recognition for her role in An Education (2009), earning an Academy Award nomination for Best Actress, a Golden Globe nomination, a Screen Actors Guild Award nomination, and winning the BAFTA Award for Best Actress in a Leading Role. In 2015, she was nominated for a Tony Award for Best Lead Actress in a Play for the Broadway revival of David Hare's Skylight. Her other notable films include Never Let Me Go (2010), Drive (2011), Shame (2011), The Great Gatsby (2013), Inside Llewyn Davis (2013), Far from the Madding Crowd (2015), and Suffragette (2015). Mulligan is an ambassador for the Alzheimer's Society and War Child. She is married to British musician Marcus Mumford and they have a daughter.
