María Cecilia Suárez de Garay, known professionally as Cecilia Suárez, was born on November 22, 1971. She is a Mexican actress and activist who works with the United Nations and European Union campaigning against femicide and violence against women. She has performed in film, television, and theater in the United States, Mexico, and Spain.
Suárez has had popular and award-winning roles in Sex, Shame and Tears, Capadocia, Nos vemos, papá, and The House of Flowers. She received three lifetime achievement awards, including being the first woman to receive Mexico's lifetime achievement award in cinema. She was also the first Spanish-speaking actress nominated for an Emmy. She is an activist for human rights and women's rights in Mexico and Mexican media, and historian Ignacio Sánchez Prado describes her as an iconic figure in Mexico's most successful films.
