Courtney Michelle Love (born Courtney Michelle Harrison, July 9, 1964) is an American musician, actress, and visual artist. She became known as the frontwoman of the band Hole, gaining attention for her stage presence and lyrics, as well as her personal life following her marriage to Kurt Cobain. Raised mainly in Oregon and California, Love was involved in several short-lived bands before acting in films by Alex Cox.
Hole's debut album was produced by Kim Gordon, and their second album, Live Through This (1994), received critical acclaim and went multi-platinum. Love earned a Golden Globe nomination for The People vs. Larry Flynt (1996). Hole's third album, Celebrity Skin (1998), brought her mainstream recognition and Grammy nominations. She appeared in films such as Man on the Moon (1999) and Trapped (2002), released a solo album, America's Sweetheart, in 2004, and released Nobody's Daughter as Hole in 2010. She returned to acting in TV series including Empire and released a new solo single in 2014.
