American actress Eartha Mae Kitt (January 17, 1927 – December 25, 2008) was a versatile performer known for her unique vocal style. Her recordings of "C'est Si Bon" and the classic holiday song "Santa Baby" both reached the Top 10 in the United States in 1953. In 1967, she took on the role of Catwoman during the final season of the television series Batman. Orson Welles referred to her as "the most exciting woman in the world."

Kitt started her professional work in 1943 and was part of the original Broadway cast for Carib Song in 1945. During the early '50s, she achieved six hits within the US Top 30, including tracks like "Uska Dara" and "I Want to be Evil." Additional notable songs include her UK Top 10 hit "Under the Bridges of Paris" (1954), along with “Just an Old Fashioned Girl” (1956) and “Where Is My Man” (1983). After making anti-war comments at a White House luncheon in 1968, her career faced challenges in America. However, she made a successful return to Broadway with Timbuktu! in its original production in 1978, earning one of her two Tony Award nominations; her second nomination came from The Wild Party's original production in 2000.

A new audience discovered Kitt through Disney's animated film The Emperor's New Groove (2000), where she voiced Yzma, a villainous character. She reprised this role for Kronk's New Groove (2005), a direct-to-video sequel, as well as The Emperor’s New School (2006-08), an animated series inspired by the film. Her contributions to this series earned her two Emmy Awards. In recognition of her talent after passing away, she received another Emmy posthumously in 2010 for guest-starring on Wonder Pets.
