Russian tennis player Elena Viacheslavovna Dementieva (Russian: Еле́на Вячерла́вовна ДемеМЍСЂСѓН‚К‘, [jЙЄЛ€lКІЙ›nЙ™ dКІЙЄЛ€mКІenКІtКіjЙЄvЙ™ ]; born 15 October 1981) is a former professional athlete. She secured the gold medal in singles at the Beijing Olympics in 2008, following her silver medal performance at the Sydney Olympics in 2000. Throughout her career, she claimed 16 WTA singles titles and advanced to the finals of both the French Open and US Open in 2004, alongside reaching seven additional Grand Slam semi-finals. Dementieva contributed to the Russian team's success in winning the Fed Cup in 2005 and partnered with Janette Husárová to win the WTA Championship doubles title in 2002. Additionally, she was a finalist in two US Open doubles events—once with Husárová in 2002 and again with Flavia Pennetta in 2005. Her highest career ranking was World No. 3, achieved on April 6, 2009. On October 29, 2010, she announced her retirement after competing at the WTA Tour Championships that year. At retirement, she held a World No. 9 ranking and maintained a position within the top ten for all but one year from 2003 to 2010.
