Austrian-German actress Elke Winkens, born Fischer on 25 March 1970 in Linnich, began her life in the Netherlands, specifically in the Ratheim district of Hückelhoven. Due to her father's profession, she and her family relocated to both the Netherlands and Belgium; they also spent time living in Africa. She embarked on ballet training at six years old and took to the stage by age nine. Subsequently, she engaged in numerous dance performances and theatrical productions. From 1978 until 1986, she was an active gymnast competing professionally, earning multiple accolades for floor exercises.

At eighteen, she received a scholarship to attend London Studio Center School from 1989 to 1991. Following that period, she moved to Vienna where she enrolled at the Musical School of Theater Vienna for studies in singing, dancing, and acting. Later on, Winkens became a member of the cabaret group Die Hektiker which helped her gain initial media attention. Her debut television role came with the series Cell-O-Fun airing between 1996 and 1997, followed by another show titled One in 1998. In 2002, she appeared as Niki Herzog in the crime drama Kommissar Rex.



In 2003 Winkens featured in Playboy's German edition. Additionally, in 2008 she took part in Dancing Stars—a celebrity dance competition broadcasted on ORF—where she was eliminated just one week shy of reaching the finale.
