Frauke Petry (born Marquardt; 1 June 1975) is a German politician who has been the chairwoman of the Alternative for Germany party since 4 July 2015. She was one of three party spokespersons from 2013 to 2015 and became leader in 2015 after displacing the party's founder Bernd Lucke in an internal power struggle.
Petry is known for her anti-Muslim views, including calls to ban minarets, and for advocating that German police use firearms "as a last resort" to prevent illegal border crossings. She has a background as a chemist and small businesswoman.
