Gugulethu Sophia Mbatha, known as Gugu Mbatha-Raw (born 21 April 1983), is a British stage and film actress. She first gained prominence in British television with a recurring role in Doctor Who as Tish Jones, sister of Martha Jones.
Mbatha-Raw appeared in American productions, including a supporting role in Larry Crowne and starring roles in the television series Undercovers and Touch. She received critical acclaim for her performances in the British period drama Belle (2013) and the romantic drama Beyond the Lights (2014), earning multiple nominations. In 2015, she starred in the title role of Jessica Swale's play Nell Gwynn and was nominated for an Evening Standard Theatre Award for Best Actress.
