Imogen Stubbs (born 20 February 1961 in Newcastle-upon-Tyne, England) is a British actress. She was born in Northumberland and lived briefly in Portsmouth. After her family moved to a houseboat on the Thames in London, she attended St Paul's Girls' School in Hammersmith and Westminster School, later studying at Exeter College, Oxford. She trained at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art.
Stubbs gained recognition with the Royal Shakespeare Company, notably as Desdemona in Othello, directed by her later husband Trevor Nunn. She appeared in several Hollywood films, including a leading role as Viola in the 1996 Shakespeare adaptation Twelfth Night. On television, she featured in Shakespeare adaptations and starred in the series Anna Lee. She is also a playwright; her play We Happy Few premiered in July 2004 at the Gielgud Theatre in London. The play depicts an all-female theatre troupe touring Britain during World War II to present Shakespeare. It was produced by Trevor Nunn and starred Juliet Stevenson, Kate O'Mara, and Marcia Warren. Imogen Stubbs married Trevor Nunn in 1994, with whom she has two children. The couple has been separated since April 2011.
