Jasmin Gerat was born in Berlin, Germany, on December 25, 1978. She is the daughter of a German mother and a Turkish father. In 1994, she won the Bravo-Girl competition, and in 1995, she placed second in The Look of the Year modeling competition. In the mid-1990s, she worked in German television, hosting shows such as Heart Attack, Bravo TV, and Chartbreaker.
Gerat began her acting career in 1997 with a lead role in Caipiranha by Felix Dünnemann. She has also performed on stage in Düsseldorf and Hanover. In 2000, for the movie I Love You, Baby, she shaved her head onscreen. Since 2005, she has portrayed police detective Jale Beck on the crime series SOKO Köln, a role she helped develop; the character shares Gerat's mixed Turkish and German heritage.
