Jessica Phyllis Lange (born April 20, 1949) is an American actress recognized for her work in film, theater, and television. She has received multiple awards, including two Academy Awards, one Tony Award, three Emmy Awards, five Golden Globe Awards, one Screen Actors Guild Award, and three Dorian Awards. In 1998, Entertainment Weekly named her among the 25 Greatest Actresses of the 1990s. In 2016, Lange became the twenty-second actor to achieve the Triple Crown of Acting.
Discovered by producer Dino De Laurentiis while modeling part-time, Lange made her film debut in his 1976 remake of King Kong, winning a Golden Globe for New Star of the Year. In 1982, she received two Oscar nominations in the same year, winning Best Supporting Actress for Tootsie and earning a Best Actress nomination for Frances. She won the Academy Award for Best Actress in 1994 for Blue Sky. Lange has also won Emmy Awards for Grey Gardens and American Horror Story, a Screen Actors Guild Award, and a Tony Award for her role in the Broadway revival of Long Day's Journey into Night. Besides acting, she is a published photographer, has been a foster parent, and serves as a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador focused on HIV/AIDS in the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Russia.
