British singer, songwriter, and animal welfare advocate Leona Louise Lewis (born 3 April 1985) hails from Islington, London. She completed her education at the BRIT School for Performing Arts and Technology. Lewis gained widespread attention after securing victory in the third season of The X Factor in 2006, which came with a £1 million recording agreement with Simon Cowell's Syco Music label. Her winning track, a rendition of Kelly Clarkson's "A Moment Like This", reached the top position on the UK Singles Chart for four consecutive weeks and set a world record by achieving 50,000 digital downloads within half an hour. In February 2007, she entered into a five-album deal in the United States with Clive Davis's J Records.

Lewis’s achievements continued with her debut album Spirit released in 2007; it attained ten times platinum status in the UK while its lead single "Bleeding Love" dominated the charts for seven weeks at number one. Internationally recognized by 2008, she became the first British female solo artist to reach the top of the US Billboard 200 chart in over two decades. Spirit has sold more than eight million copies globally, and "Bleeding Love" topped charts in over thirty countries, becoming that year's best-selling single worldwide. Consequently, Billboard named her 'Top New Artist' for that year. Under Cowell and Davis’s direction, Lewis launched her second number-one album Echo and performed the theme song for Avatar in 2009 while initiating her first arena tour across the UK called The Labyrinth in 2010.

In 2011, she introduced "Collide", a non-album collaboration with Swedish DJ Avicii along with her initial extended play titled Hurt: The EP. Her third studio effort Glassheart was released in 2012; it represented a shift towards dubstep and electronic influences but did not achieve commercial success comparable to its predecessors as it peaked at number three on the UK Albums Chart without obtaining platinum certification. During her Glassheart Tour mid-2013, she began work on material for what would be her inaugural Christmas album titled Christmas, with Love released later that year featuring lead single "One More Sleep", which climbed to number three on UK charts—making Lewis the first British female solo artist to secure eight top-five singles surpassing Olivia Newton-John’s previous record of seven.

Beginning her career in 2006, Lewis ranks as one of The X Factor franchise's second-best selling artists having moved twenty million records globally. She has received one Bambi Award alongside an MTV Video Music Award and three World Music Awards among other accolades including being nominated seven times for Brit Awards and thrice for Grammy Awards. In addition to music accolades, she made her film debut portraying Elena—a supporting role—in Walking on Sunshine (2014), also receiving recognition as a Women's Entrepreneurship Day Music Pioneer Award winner from UN officials back in 2015.

Currently making strides onto Broadway as Grizabella within Andrew Lloyd Webber’s musical Cats revival that commenced performances in July of 2016.
