Mariana Atencio is a Peabody Award-winning journalist and news personality working for MSNBC and NBC News, covering domestic and international issues through breaking news and special reports. The Huffington Post described her as "our Latina Christiane Amanpour" and named her one of the top 15 Latinas in American newsrooms, noting her rare crossover from Spanish to English television.
Atencio focused her 2016 election reporting on the importance of Latino voters in the U.S. Before NBC, she worked as an anchor and correspondent for Univision and Fusion Networks from 2011 to 2016, reporting on global youth unrest, protests, and major events such as the Haiti earthquake anniversary, Ferguson protests, Hong Kong youth movement, the disappearance of 43 students in Mexico, and President Obama's immigration executive order. She also reported for ABC's coverage of Pope Francis and the 2014 student protests in Venezuela. Additionally, Atencio has spoken publicly, delivering a TEDx Talk in 2017 on humanity, tolerance, and inclusiveness, addressing the United Nations in 2016 about Latin America's future, and moderating the Impacto Latino Summit in 2015.
