Mia Wasikowska, born in October 1989, is an Australian actress. She made her screen debut on the Australian television drama All Saints in 2004 and her feature film debut in Suburban Mayhem (2006). She gained wider recognition through the HBO series In Treatment and received an Independent Spirit Award nomination for Best Supporting Female for That Evening Sun (2009). Wasikowska rose to international prominence in 2010 after starring as Alice in Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland and appearing in The Kids Are All Right, for which she received the Hollywood Awards Breakthrough Actress Award.
In 2011, she played the title role in Cary Fukunaga's Jane Eyre and starred in Gus Van Sant's Restless and Rodrigo Garcia's Albert Nobbs. She appeared in John Hillcoat's Lawless (2012), Park Chan-wook's Stoker (2013), Richard Ayoade's The Double (2013), David Cronenberg's Maps to the Stars (2014), and Guillermo del Toro's Crimson Peak (2015). Wasikowska received British Independent Film Award nominations for Jane Eyre and The Double, a Saturn Award nomination for Stoker, and a Gotham Independent Film Award nomination for Tracks (2013). As a director, she was nominated for the AACTA Award for Best Direction for the 2013 anthology film The Turning. She reprised her role as Alice Kingsleigh in Alice Through the Looking Glass, released on 27 May 2016.
