Michelle Yeoh Choo-kheng, born 6 August 1962 in Ipoh, Perak, Malaysia, is a Malaysian actress known for her roles in 1990s Hong Kong action films and international English-language films. She gained fame for her roles in Tomorrow Never Dies (1997) and Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon (2000). She starred in Star Trek: Discovery (2017–2020) as the captain of the USS Shenzhou and the Emperor from the Mirror Universe and is set to star in a Star Trek spinoff about Section 31. Early in her career, she was credited as Michelle Khan.
Yeoh won the Miss Malaysia pageant in 1983 at age 20 and performed her own stunts in Hong Kong action films such as Yes, Madam (1985), Police Story 3: Supercop (1992), and Holy Weapon (1993). She was nominated for a BAFTA Award for Best Actress for Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon. Her filmography includes Memoirs of a Geisha (2005), Kung Fu Panda 2 (2009), Reign of Assassins (2010), The Lady (2011), Crazy Rich Asians (2018), Master Z: The Ip Man Legacy (2018), Last Christmas (2019), and Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings (2021). Rotten Tomatoes ranked her the greatest action heroine of all time in 2008. People magazine named her one of the "50 Most Beautiful People in the World" in 1997 and one of the "35 All-Time Screen Beauties" in 2009.
