Petra Kvitová, born 8 March 1990, is a Czech professional tennis player known for her powerful left-handed groundstrokes. She turned professional in 2006 and has won 26 career singles titles, including two Grand Slam titles at Wimbledon in 2011 and 2014. She won a bronze medal at the 2016 Rio Olympics and reached a career-high ranking of world No. 2 on 31 October 2011. As of 4 February 2019, she was ranked No. 2 by the Women's Tennis Association (WTA), making her the highest-ranked Czech and left-handed player in the world.
Kvitová first gained attention by defeating world No. 1 Dinara Safina at the 2009 US Open and reached her first Grand Slam semifinal at Wimbledon in 2010. In 2011, she won Wimbledon and the WTA Tour Championships, becoming the third player to win the latter on debut. She also contributed to the Czech Republic's first Fed Cup title as an independent nation that year. In 2012, she reached the semifinals of the Australian and French Opens, won the US Open Series, and the Hopman Cup with Tomáš Berdych. She won her second Wimbledon title in 2014 and made quarterfinals at all four Grand Slams in 2015. In 2016, she won the WTA Elite Trophy on her first attempt, becoming the first player to win both year-ending championships on debut. In 2019, she reached the Australian Open final, finishing runner-up to Naomi Osaka.
