Sofia Anna Kenin (born November 14, 1998) is an American professional tennis player with a career-high WTA ranking of No. 4. She is the reigning Australian Open champion and the youngest American to win a Grand Slam women's singles title since 2002. Kenin was named WTA Most Improved Player of the Year in 2019, the first American to receive the award since 1999. She has won five WTA singles titles and two WTA doubles titles, including the 2019 China Open with Bethanie Mattek-Sands. On the ITF tour, she has four singles and two doubles titles.
Kenin was recognized as a child prodigy and coached primarily by her father. She reached No. 2 in the junior world rankings after winning the Orange Bowl at 16 and was runner-up at the 2015 US Open girls' singles event. She also won the USTA Girls 18s National Championship. Kenin entered the WTA top 100 in 2018 and reached four WTA singles finals in 2019, winning three. Her 2020 Australian Open title included a victory over world No. 1 Ashleigh Barty. Her best Grand Slam result before that was reaching the fourth round of the 2019 French Open, where she defeated Serena Williams.
