Alison Lohman was born on September 18, 1979, in Palm Springs, California. She developed an interest in acting during childhood without influence from show business connections. Her first theater role was at age nine at the McCallum Theater in Palm Desert. Two years later, she received the Desert Theater League's Award for Outstanding Actress in a Musical for the title role in Annie. She participated in several other productions in the following years.
In 1997, Lohman moved to Los Angeles for her career and appeared in various television productions and science fiction B-movies. Her breakthrough came in 2002 with the film White Oleander, acting alongside Renée Zellweger, Robin Wright Penn, and Michelle Pfeiffer. She also appeared in the film Tricks, playing a teenager pretending to be 14 years old at age 23. Lohman has been married to director Mark Neveldine since August 2009 and has two children.
