Anastacia Lyn Newkirk (born September 17, 1968) is an American singer-songwriter, producer, and former dancer. She gained recognition in the early 2000s with her pop music, particularly in Europe and Oceania. Her first two albums, Not That Kind (2000) and Freak of Nature (2001), achieved major success, highlighted by the multi-platinum single "I'm Outta Love." In 2001, she was awarded 'World's Best-Selling New Female Pop Artist.' She continued to release international hits such as "Paid My Dues," "One Day In Your Life," and "Boom," the official song of the 2002 FIFA World Cup. After recovering from cancer, she released Anastacia in 2004, which reached number one in 11 countries and became Europe’s second best-selling album that year. Its lead single "Left Outside Alone" topped the European Billboard chart for 15 weeks. In 2005, she released the multi-platinum compilation Pieces of a Dream, featuring the chart-topping duet "I Belong to You (Il Ritmo della Passione)" with Eros Ramazzotti. Anastacia has sold over 30 million records worldwide and has topped the U.S. dance chart twice.
In 2014, she returned with her sixth studio album, Resurrection, which reached the top ten in Italy, the Netherlands, Switzerland, Germany, and the UK. Her Ultimate Collection was released in 2015 and became her sixth top ten album in the UK. Known for her powerful mezzo-soprano voice and height of 5 feet 2 inches (157 cm), she has been called "the little lady with the big voice" and is recognized for her trademark glasses, despite having corrective lasik surgery in 2005. Anastacia has faced multiple health challenges, including Crohn's disease diagnosed at age 13, breast cancer at ages 34 and again in 2013, and supraventricular tachycardia at age 39. On October 1, 2013, she announced undergoing a double mastectomy. In 2013, she received the Humanitarian Award at the GQ Men of the Year Awards for her charitable work in breast cancer awareness.
