Kathleen Emperatriz "Kat" DeLuna (born November 26, 1987) is an American singer, songwriter, and dancer. Born in The Bronx to Dominican parents, she began her singing career as a teenager. After signing with Epic Records, she released her debut single "Whine Up" in 2007, which became a commercial success, entering the Top 40 in multiple countries and topping the Billboard Hot Dance Club Play chart. Her debut album, 9 Lives (2007), did not achieve the same success, though its third single, "Run the Show," reached number two on the Hot Dance Club Play chart.
After being dropped from Epic Records, DeLuna continued recording collaborations and soundtrack singles. Her second studio album, Inside Out (2010), was released with limited distribution through Universal Music Belgium and included singles such as "Unstoppable," "Push Push," and "Dancing Tonight," featuring Lil Wayne, Akon, and Fo Onassis respectively. A North American edition titled Viva was planned but never released. She was working on a third album slated for 2015. DeLuna won "Best New Artist" at the Los Premios MTV Latinoamérica 2007, "Best New Artist" and "Best Urban Artist" at the 2008 TMF Awards, "Latin Dance Club Play Track of the Year" for "Whine Up" at the 2008 Latin Billboard Music Awards, and a Casandra Award for "Best International Artist" in 2008.
