American actress and film director Lee Grant has had a diverse career in stage, film, and television. Between 1952 and 1964, she faced a blacklist that limited her opportunities in radio, film, and television; however, she remained active in theater during this period.

Grant received the Best Actress honor at the 1952 Cannes Film Festival for her portrayal of a shoplifter in the cinematic adaptation of Detective Story released in 1951. In addition, she earned the Obie Award for Distinguished Performance by an Actress in 1964 for her role as Solange in Jean Genet's The Maids. She was awarded an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for her work as Felicia Karpf in Shampoo (1975). Throughout her career from 1966 to 1993, she garnered seven Emmy nominations and secured two wins.
