American writer, actress, producer, and director Lena Dunham (born May 13, 1986) is recognized for her role as the creator, writer, and lead of the HBO series Girls (2012–present). Her contributions to the show have led to multiple Emmy nominations and two Golden Globe wins. In 2013, she became the first female recipient of the Directors Guild of America Award for Outstanding Directing – Comedy Series due to her work on Girls. That same year, Time magazine named her one of the 100 most influential people globally.
