Russian-American former artistic gymnast Anastasia Valeryevna "Nastia" Liukin (born October 30, 1989) is known for her achievements in gymnastics. She claimed the title of All-Around champion at the 2008 Olympics and earned five Olympic medals overall. Additionally, she won world titles on the balance beam in both 2005 and 2007, as well as a world championship on uneven bars in 2005. Liukin also secured four all-around U.S. national championships, achieving two victories each as a junior and senior competitor. With nine medals from World Championships—seven being individual events—Liukin shares third place for the most World Championship medals among U.S. gymnasts with Shannon Miller. Furthermore, she matched Miller's record for American gymnasts by winning the highest number of medals during a single non-boycotted Olympic Games. As an integral member of the U.S. senior team, she participated in three World Championships and one Olympic Games throughout her career. In October 2011, she declared her intention to return to gymnastics with aspirations of qualifying for another Olympic team; however, after experiencing multiple falls at the Olympic Trials and other preliminary competitions, she did not secure a spot on the 2012 team and ultimately retired that same year.
