Paulina Susana Rubio-Dosamantes (born 17 June 1971) is a Mexican singer, actress, television music competition judge, hostess, model, and businesswoman. She began her music career as a member of the pop group Timbiriche from 1981 to 1991 before starting her solo career. Her debut album, La Chica Dorada (1992), reached number 42 on Billboard Top Latin Albums and number 2 on Billboard Latin Pop. Subsequent albums with EMI Music included 24 Kilates (1993), El Tiempo Es Oro (1995), and Planeta Paulina (1996). She left EMI Music in 1996, paying to be released from her contract to gain creative freedom.
Under Universal Music, Rubio released Paulina (2000) and Border Girl (2002), achieving worldwide commercial success. Paulina was the best-selling Latin album in the United States in 2001, selling over 800,000 copies there and more than 4 million worldwide. It received two diamond certifications for sales of 2 million copies in 2001 alone. Her later albums Pau-Latina (2004), Ananda (2006), Gran City Pop (2009), and Brava! (2011) continued her international success. Rubio was a coach on La Voz... Mexico (2012), La Voz Kids (2013), and a judge on the American X Factor (2013). In 2015, she released the single "Mi nuevo Vicio," which was a number one hit in Spain and other countries. She has sold over 20 million records worldwide as a solo artist and is considered one of the most influential Latin celebrities.
