Flemish vocalist Sandy Boets, known by her stage name Xandee, was born on December 18, 1978, in Tienen. She represented Belgium in the Eurovision Song Contest in 2004. At just 16 years old, she established the pop group Touch of Joy alongside Serge (Sergio) Quisquater. Sergio and his band Sergio & The Ladies participated for Belgium at ESC 2002 with their entry "Sister".

During the Eurovision Song Contest held in Istanbul in 2004, Xandee performed her upbeat dance track "1 Life." The song was considered one of the top contenders prior to the event but ultimately received only seven points—five from neighboring Netherlands—leading to a placement of 22nd out of 24 entries.

A similar outcome occurred two years later at the Eurovision Song Contest 2006 in Athens when another Belgian contestant, Kate Ryan, despite being heavily favored by many fans and analysts, did not advance past the semi-finals.
