Dominican actress, singer, model, and beauty queen Amelia Vega Horford (Amelia Vega Polanco; born November 7, 1984, in Santo Domingo) is recognized for being the first Dominican woman to win the Miss Universe title in 2003. Her father, Otto Vega Rasuk, practices medicine as a general practitioner with clinics located in New York City and Miami. Her mother, Patricia Polanco Álvarez, holds a pilot's license and was previously crowned as a national titleholder who represented the Dominican Republic at the Miss World pageant in 1980. Vega is related by marriage to Grammy Award-winning artist Juan Luis Guerra and is married to NBA athlete Al Horford.
